Cannes Film Festival 2015

Hi everyone!
I fancied doing a quick little post about some of my favourite outfits from this years film festival in Cannes.

On the left is Li Bingbing, from Transformers, wearing a dress by Zuhair Murad. I absolutely love this dress because of the combination of sheer fabrics and sparkly detailing. I love the train and I love the way it's a mixture of figure hugging dress and a really pretty princess dress. It reminds me of Cinderellas ball dress and I think it's a really pretty colour.

The middle dress is worn by style blogger, Kristina Bazan and is designed by Elie Saab. I really like this dress because it reminds me of my prom dress that I wore when I was 18! (although my prom dress wasn't yellow) The simple design always works well and I love the fabric choice. I think the yellow really suits her.

On the right is Emma Stone in a beautiful Oscar de la Renta dress. I think this dress is so pretty and girly and I don't think you can ever go far wrong in a little black dress. I love the lace top on this dress and the layered, ruffled skirt and I think her hair looks perfect with this dress. She looks very feminine.

The detailing on Cheryl Fernandez-Versinis, Ralph & Russo dress is amazing. I study fashion and textiles at uni which means that I design and make clothes and I make my own prints and do my own detailing. I can really appreciate the amount of work that would have gone into this dress! No wonder Cheryl is smiling!  I think the bodice detailing is so perfect and intricate and the pleating on the neck, shoulders and back is so pretty, I would love to see this dress in real life!

Which Cannes outfits have been your favourites this year? Let me know in the comments!

Summer Wishlist

I wanted to share with you some things I found while online browsing! Some of these are a little out of my price range since I'm still a student but there's no harm in dreaming!

1. Hair Bows- New Look- £3.99 for Three
I absolutely love hair bows, I wear them quite a lot, and I think they're such an easy way to make a simple hair style look just a little bit more interesting!

2. Crochet Shift Dress- Topshop- £68
This is a little out of my usual price range but I absolutely love crochet during the summer, it's always a popular look and I just don't think you can go wrong!

3. Laser Cut Ballet Pumps- New Look- £15.99
I had a pair of shoes similar to these in brown last year and they were so comfortable and went with everything! I really want to get another pair this year, and as my ones from last summer are still wearable I think I'll change it up a little with a white pair!

4. Coral Ruffle Bardot Top- Miss Selfridge- £20
I really love the colour of this top and I think off the shoulder things are so pretty and feminine!

5. Pleated Midi Skirt- Topshop- £45
Midi skirts are my favourite at the moment, my style is usually quite vintage so I am so happy that this look has come back around. I love the combination of pink and navy together and I think this would be so cute with the Coral top.

6. Mini Conch Shell Necklace- Topshop - £12
As I am quite petite, I don't feel I can really get away with wearing big statement necklaces (although I have seen a lot of petite girls look really good in them) I just don't feel that they really suit me or my style. I love little dainty pieces of jewellery and I think this shell is a nice reminder of summer and the beach.

7. White Flip Lock Backpack- New Look- £24.99
I love backpacks in the summer! I think they make days out so easy, you can just chuck your water and your sun-cream in and head off for the day without having to think of carrying a handbag, they also mean you can bring a cardigan in case it gets a little chilly once evening comes. I do actually own a backpack similar to this one but I thought I'd include this one on here anyway!

Let me know what you think of these or if you're lucky enough to have any!

BUDAPEST

Two weeks ago I visited Budapest for five days, and I can honestly say it's the best place I've ever been! The weather was lovely and the city itself was beautiful!

We hired a self catered apartment which was really nice and meant we had the freedom to come and go as we pleased and that we didn't have to wake up in time for hotel breakfasts. We saved a lot of money on eating out which meant we had more to spend on activities!

On the first day we went for a guided tour, which we've tended to do in most cities we've visited as you really do learn a lot about the history of the city from them, and it's a really good way of learning your way around! The tour lasted three hours and towards the end of the tour we walked up lots of steps towards Buda castle and got a great view of the whole city.

(the lovely view of the whole city- ignore the beer, it wasn't mine!)

Another day we visited Margaret Island, which was one of the nicest places I've ever seen, it was so green and we got to explore it on a thing that looked like a golf cart but you pedal it. (I have no idea what they're called.) We went to the best outdoor Swimming pool/water park, called Palatinus Strand, which was absolutely massive and we spent most of the day there, I really didn't want to ever leave! There were five or six different pools, a giant hot tub and flumes too. The weather was 28 degrees which made the day just perfect. I would definitely recommend visiting there if you're ever in Budapest!

Me on the little cart thing! Let me know if you know what they're called!

We also visited the public baths that Budapest is well known for having, we went to one which was in the strangest, most deserted looking building you've ever seen. I thought it had been abandoned for years judging by the look of the outside. We went all the way around it and managed to find an entrance and inside looked completely different! Inside were lots of different medicinal baths and a sauna and steam room, we even got a forty minute massage each. It was the fastest forty minutes of my life!

The outside of the spa.

On the last day we explored the last bits we had missed and finally got some Goulash! Its shocking that we didn't manage to get one until our last day but it was definitely worth the wait! We went to a little bar called For Sale Pub which we'd read really good reviews about and thought we'd give it a go. It was quite a small place and very quirky. The walls and ceilings were completely covered in pinned up notes, tickets and photographs from hundreds of previous guests, there wasn't a single visible bit of wall! On each table was a massive basket of monkey nuts and we were encouraged to throw the shells on the floor! It felt so wrong! We ordered a goulash each and it was far too much for us to handle. The menu did warn us of portion size but we really didn't realise how big they actually meant, we should have only ordered one between us but it really was the best goulash ever and so so filling! The price of food in Budapest was so reasonable which made it even better, although I did find it quite difficult to work out the conversions.

Notes and Monkey nuts in For Sale Pub

Obviously we did a lot more and visited a lot more lovely places than I've written about but I didn't want this post to be too long. I hope you've all enjoyed reading about my trip to Budapest and I hope I've convinced some of you to consider going for your next trip! Let me know if you've ever been and if so what your favourite bits were!

21st Birthday!

Hey everyone! Once again this is a bit of a late post but I have finally finished my second year of uni so now I have the summer free to blog some more!

On March the 22nd I celebrated my 21st birthday and it was the best one yet! I'm not a massive fan of clubbing so me and my course-mates decided I should have a vintage themed tea party during the day, and as my Birthday fell on a Sunday this seemed like a perfect idea, and it was an excuse for me to make a dress!

My day started with my parents and my doggy driving down to my uni house in Portsmouth to give me my cards and presents and to take me out for birthday breakfast, even though I had my hair up in Velcro rollers. They got me the most beautiful ring and it was so lovely to see them! After breakfast they helped me to set up the house and put my cards and all the bunting up! Meanwhile my house-mates surprised me with loads of balloons that they'd spent the whole morning blowing up, and some tissue paper tassels They'd made me! I was already feeling spoilt!

When my friends arrived I was even more spoilt! I was surprised with helium balloons and they sung Happy Birthday to me with home-made bread rolls in the shape of dogs and rabbits which they'd put candles in! (I'm not the biggest fan of cake) apparently they carried the rolls straight past me earlier that day and I was completely oblivious! They also got me a really sparkly broach which looks perfect on my fur jacket, and some champagne! The day carried on and we brought lots of snacks out to the garden for a mini picnic and then played pin the Oscar on Leonardo. It was so lovely to see everyone dressed up vintage especially for me, as I know it's not everyone's cup of tea.

I was still on such a high after everyone left, and I said to my house-mate, Isabelle that the only thing that would have topped of the whole day is if my boyfriend had been able to make it. (We are long distance so we don't get to see each other as much as we'd like to) but we had planned a skype call for that evening anyway so I was happy and I couldn't wait to show him everything from that day. We all had a big deadline coming up a couple of days later so I thought our skype would provide a nice break from the all-nighter Isabelle and I had planned for that night. The time for the call came round and he looked like he was outdoors as it was really dark and I was so confused... I asked where on earth he was and he didn't say anything, he just turned around and I saw my front door behind him!! He was outside! Best surprise ever!

I had the best 21st birthday and it still makes me so excited to think back on it!

A close up of the floral shirt dress I made to wear for the occasion. Even though I ended up doing a change of outfit half way through.

Me and one of my helium balloons (which are still floating almost two months later) after my change of outfit.

I'M BACK!

Hey Everyone!

I know I vanished off the face of the planet for a while (Well, blog-planet) but I am back now and I promise not to vanish again! A lot has happened since 2013 (which was the last time I blogged- sorry!) I guess the biggest thing was me starting Uni!

I moved to Portsmouth in September of 2013 to study Fashion and Textile design, and I am now in my second year! I love my course because I am lucky enough to study both fashion and textiles instead of choosing between them! I've met lots of cool people and I've really got to know myself since living away from home.

I like to think that my sewing skills have improved since the beginning of my course and I would really like to start sharing some of the things I make with you guys. As well as posting all my usual charity shop and Ebay fashion bargains! (Which there have been plenty of since my disappearance)

Here are just a few photos from my time in Portsmouth over the past year and a half!

Charity Shop/ Boot sale/ Jumble sale finds!

Hello everyone! Sorry I haven't blogged in forever, I've been really really busy, although doing what I'm not too sure haha.
I've spent the last few days in Essex with my boyfriend and over the weekend we decided to take a look at some local charity shops and boot sales to see what bargains we could pick up.

My first purchase actually happened on the very first stall of the boot sale, which really excited me as I thought that was a sign of things to come! Unfortunately this was not the case as this was the only purchase I made throughout the whole boot sale! I managed to pick up a lovely pair of black strappy heels, with a platform and chunky heel! I've actually been looking for a pair like this for ages but gave up as they're always way above my price range! But how could I turn these down for £1.50? And they were in my size! (it's a sign.)

My Second purchase of the day was a very simple navy jersey dress with pleats. I really liked how soft it felt and it was really comfortable when on! It wasn't until I tried it on though that I thought it might be a ballet teachers dress as it looked exactly like my old ballet teachers one when I looked in the mirror! But still, I think it's nice and only cost me £1.20 in a charity shop! (sorry about the quality of the photos, they were taken on my phone)

I've recently realised how few tops I own, especially as I've picked up a lot of fabric that I'd like to use to make skirts recently, but i'll have nothing to wear them with! I came across this Ralph Lauren shirt and fell in love with all the tiny details on it. At £3.99 it's more than I'd usually pay for a top second hand but I thought i'd never see that kind of deal again! It's just a pretty white shirt with lace, embroidered flowers and ribbon which has been woven through the sleeves. It isn't something I would usually wear but I'm hoping I can make it work with one of my skirts.

The last of the charity shops had to be my favourite, they had a room out the back especially for crafty things at crazily cheap prices! I bought some lovely pink and white candy striped fabric, and some really bright purple fabric, I'm not too sure what to do with them yet but I fell in love with the colour! and at £2 each for way over a meter it was definitely worth it. Before leaving the shop I decided to go back for another rummage and the woman working there asked me if there was anything in particular I was looking for as she had loads more out back, although I couldn't think of anything I asked if I would be able to go out and see what was there, she kindly took me round there and I got some really nice thick checked fabric for £2, in some really warm colours which I think will make a good winter skirt! I also picked up a huge amount of tweed which I've been looking for absolutely ages! (again to make a skirt.) This was £4 but still a massive bargain due to the amount I got! I picked up lots of lace, elastic and ribbon, as they're always so useful to have when being a fashion student! And they kindly gave us three free marrows which one of the staff had grown when we paid! How funny!

Anyone that has ever spent any time in a shop with me will know how much I love all kinds of boxes and tins, i'm not too sure why but I just love containers! I'm also a big fan of all things tapestry. Callum got this one for me to put my make-up in when I move to portsmouth next month! It can fit a really good amount of things in it and even has a mirror inside! Perfect!

Our last stop was a local jumble sale that we saw advertised whilst driving around. On our first look around we didn't really come across anything very interesting so we decided to take a second look. I got a scarf for 50p which i really like. The colours are really vibrant and it has a lovely silky feel to it.

I also got a lovely knitting basket. The basket wasn't actually meant to be for sale, the woman was just displaying her own knitting in it, i felt really bad once she told me she hadn't intended to sell it, but she kindly gave it to me for only £3! I love it!

The best bargain of the day was a pair of shoes Callum picked up, they were quite squashed when we looked at them so they'd obviously been stored away for a while, they had a few marks on them and were missing laces. So the man on the stall sold them to him for 50p! Once Callum got them home, cleaned them up a bit and put laces on them they looked a million times better! (The picture really doesn't do them any justice and they look really nice on!)

These are just a few other things he managed to pick up over the weekend for less than £5 all together!

Hope you're all doing well! Again I'm sorry that I haven't blogged in ages, I'll try and do so more often now! Let me know what you think of these bargains or even better, if you've picked up any of your own! :)

Interview Outfit

Just a quick post to show you all what I wore to my Ravensbourne interview today. I'm applying to do a fashion design course so I wanted to make sure my outfit stood out a little bit! (I'll apologise now for the really awful quality of the photos, as you can imagine i was in a big rush before the interview so i asked my mum to quickly take some photos of me on my phone! Sorry!)

I decided to wear a black lace midi length dress as I thought it would look quite professional for my interview, this dress was my latest purchase from a local charity shop. The lace is quite a unique design and I love the scalloped edges on the sleeves and hem (You can't see it too well in my photos, sorry!) I teamed it with a pair of platformed Chelsea boots from h&m (see earlier post) to add something more current into my outfit.

I kept to the black theme by adding one of my favourite black Jackets which  got for an absolute bargain in Primark a couple of years ago, only £10 on sale! (I changed the buttons on it to give it my own  unique twist, which only cost me a few pounds more!)

I wore my hair up in a bun using a hair donut with a bow tie around it to make it a bit more exciting, and my makeup was quite neutral as I didn't want to look as though I was heading for a night out! I kept makeup minimal apart from blended shades of gold eye shaddow on my eye lids.

Have any of you had any interviews? Hope they go/are going well for you!
